The housing and homelessness charity was chosen as Fusion21’s nominated charity for the year and will benefit from a number of fundraising events as Dave Neilson, Chief Executive, Fusion21 explains, “Shelter is a charity that believes everyone should have a home, and actively campaign for decent housing for all. Their aims link very closely with those of Fusion21 and our partners. This year we hope to promote the work of the charity through our own fundraising activities and hope that we will be able to make a viable contribution to their cause.”
Luke Smith, KTP assoicate at Fusion21, completed the 950-mile trip in under 10 days averaging 90 miles a day. Donations can still be made via Smith’s sponsorship page at http://www.justgiving.com/rideforshelter .
He said: “The John O’ Groats to Lands End cycle went exactly as planned and I completed the ride on Saturday 30th April. The weather was kind and it proved a fantastic way to see the country. Having been in a collision with a car whilst training in February I was extremely lucky to be able to regain my fitness in time to undertake the challenge. The support I have received has been brilliant and all donations are for a great cause.”
Rebecca Burgess, Business Development Executive at Shelter commented, “We are delighted Fusion21 has chosen Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity as your Charity of the Year 2011/12. Thank you so much for all your fundraising efforts during your Charity Days, combined efforts that have so far raised over £2,000 for people in desperate housing need.A big thank you also to Luke Smith who completed a mammoth 950-mile bike ride from John O’Groats to Lands End in under 10 days for Shelter.”
“Through all your support we are able to continue to provide vital services and projects across the country. More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, national help-lines and network of specialised services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive. On behalf of everyone at Shelter thank you and good luck!”
