Adam strikes employment with Bell Group
19-year old Adam Ryan (pictured) has secured employment with leading contractor Bell Group after receiving support from Fusion21.
“I always wanted to do Joinery but couldn’t get an apprenticeship in it. I ended up doing Grounds Maintenance but when that finished I didn’t know what I’d do,” says the Speke born teenager.
Adam was recommended by his then employers, South Liverpool Homes, to contact Fusion21 who used their practical based apprenticeship scheme to send Adam to Liverpool Community College and gain qualifications in Carpentry and Joinery.
“I loved it, and Fusion21 also helped me get my CSCS card so I could work on construction sites. My confidence grew and all I had to do then was get a job. It’s hard for young people nowadays.”
Fortunately Bell Group, a supply partner on many of Fusion21’s framework products and who regularly work with most registered social landlords in property maintenance, roofing and painting, had such an opportunity.
“I just applied for it and got the job. I couldn’t believe it, a proper job as a joiner. The people are really good to work with at Bell and without the help from Fusion21 I wouldn’t have been taken on as I now had some experience, my CSCS card and a qualification.”
Adam has been working on properties belonging to Riverside in the Toxteth and Wavertree areas of Liverpool, as part of a maintenance programme which has been managed through Fusion21’s External Painting & Repairs Framework.
Rob Bibby, Project Manager for Bell Group, said: “Since starting with us, Adam has been given his own individual work areas and all the work carried out has been to a high standard. It’s nice to see a young guy who has come out of his apprenticeship and become part of a team with the rest of the work force.”
Danielle McGivern, Community Regeneration Support Officer, supervised Adam during his time as an apprentice with Fusion21. “When graduates from Fusion21 secure employment like this it makes everyone’s hard work worthwhile.
We have a good relationship with our supply partners and it’s great to see them giving young people a chance on our members’ properties.
Generating employment opportunities and developing individuals is what we and our members are all about.”
