Your Housing Group Residents Boost Skills To Get Construction Site Ready

Unemployed residents of Fusion21 member Your Housing Group took part in a four-day course – to develop the skills needed to kick-start a career in the construction industry.

Organised by Andrea Lang, Community and Regeneration Training Co-ordinator at Fusion21, 13 customers went back to the classroom to gain a range of qualifications – from Health and Safety, First Aid, and Asbestos Awareness and Manual Handling, to undertaking CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) training needed to start work on a construction site.

Through Fusion21 frameworks, Your Housing Group has awarded Liverpool-based building Frank Rogers a £3million kitchen and bathroom programme to be delivered over the next three years.  The contract involves updating homes as part of the social landlord’s wider scale regeneration programme being carried out in the Anfield area of Liverpool, and will generate a range of social value outcomes.

This recent course has been funded through the projects social value commitment – and makes an important contribution, supporting Your Housing Group customers to get on the right track to employment.

Following putting their new-found knowledge into practice, resident Mehwich Ishtaq has accepted the role of Resident Liaison Officer with Frank Rogers, whilst David Bennett has been offered work experience.

In addition, resident Sophie McAnaulty has successfully secured an apprenticeship with the contractor in Business Administration. All three new recruits will be supporting Frank Rogers to deliver Your Housing Group’s £3million kitchen and bathroom programme.
