Cobalt Housing, Building Skills and Bardsley Construction have worked in partnership to create two new apprenticeships for local 18 year olds.
Cobalt Housing is working with Bardsley Construction to deliver new homes to residents in Croxteth Liverpool. Through the project, they have appointed two young tenants as apprentices through a local shared apprenticeship scheme, Building Skills for the Future.
Jodie Fitzgerald and Daniel Byrne who are both 18 have secured positions as Apprentice Maintenance Operatives and both are now working on site in Croxteth, Liverpool.
New apprentice and Cobalt Housing resident Jodie Fitzgerald said, “I’m really happy to have secured this position, I have done work experience on building sites in the past but I’m pleased I’ve now managed to gain an apprenticeship in my local area.”
Daniel Byrne who is also a Cobalt resident said, “I’m enjoying working so far, I’ve had past experience working at Liverpool Football Club and American Golf so this is my first experience of working on a construction site.”
Both Jodie and Daniel will be completing Multi- Skilled Apprenticeships with Building Skills, the official shared apprenticeship scheme for Merseyside & Cheshire that is ran in partnership with CITB and social enterprise Fusion21.
Building Skills makes it easier for contractors to taken on apprentices in these harder economic times as they don’t have to commit to the full 2 or 3 year apprentice duration. Building Skills works to ensure the apprentices successfully complete their qualifications with different contractors. The scheme also ensures that apprentices are supported throughout the duration of their apprenticeship.
Manila Sood, Community Regeneration Manager at Cobalt Housing said“We are committed to creating training and job opportunities for our tenants - we are so pleased to hear that Jodie is Bardsley Construction’s first female apprentice. I would encourage other Cobalt Housing tenants to get in touch with us to find out about future apprenticeship opportunities.”
Paul Strutt, Managing Director of Bardsley Construction said, “At Bardsley we understand the importance of providing employment opportunities for young people and introducing new talent to the construction industry. We are delighted to welcome Jodie and Daniel to the teamand look forward to providing them with vital on-the-job experience.”
