Fusion21 Foundation supports domestic abuse prevention in housing
The Fusion21 Foundation has invested in a programme led by Fresh Visions to pilot a new area of work around domestic abuse prevention. The initiative explores how housing providers can better support, educate and build skills that help prevent cycles of domestic violence and abuse.
This school and community-based programme has engaged and supported 144 young people and 20 adults in the Rye and Hastings area of East Sussex.
As part of the funding, a report led by Southern Housing and its sister charity, Fresh Visions, has been published to strengthen support for residents affected by domestic abuse. The initiative aims to develop a proactive, trauma-informed and person-centred approach, ensuring residents receive timely and effective help when they need it most.
The research, conducted by Rocket Science UK Ltd, analysed Southern Housing’s anti-social behaviour data alongside its community programmes. This work identified opportunities to improve service delivery, and is already helping to redesign support services, reduce waiting times and establish clearer referral pathways for residents in need.
Jo Hannan, Head of the Fusion21 Foundation said: “We’re proud to support this important work, which will help Southern Housing and Fresh Visions deliver trauma‑informed support and improve safety, stability and outcomes for vulnerable residents. Initiatives like this reflect our commitment to funding projects that create lasting, positive change in communities.”
Emma Cummings, Head of Places & Community Partnerships at Southern Housing, added, Head of the Fusion21 Foundation said: “Fresh Visions supports adults and children to rebuild their lives after the trauma of domestic abuse through our specialist counselling services. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the Fusion21 Foundation to invest in this vital area of research, helping to advance trauma‑informed practice across the housing sector and ensure survivors receive the understanding and support they deserve.”
The launch of the report marks an important step forward in evidence‑based domestic abuse support within the housing sector. Jointly funded by the Fusion21 Foundation and PiLON Ltd, the project continues to shape best practice and inform ongoing improvements to services for residents across the sector.
