Life is SEW good for Derby Court residents thanks to Fusion21 and Redrow Homes

A weekly activity at a Merseyside extra care scheme is helping to reduce isolation, boost mental wellbeing, and bring more residents together - thanks to our commitment to ensuring social value is woven into projects to benefit the wider community.

Working in partnership with Knowsley Council, our social value team is supporting housebuilder Redrow to embed, deliver, and monitor social value linked to the Hilton Grange development in Halewood.

Redrow has kindly donated £1,000 to pay for five sewing machines to further the ambitions of a sewing club at Plus Dane Housing’s Derby Court - an extra care scheme in Halewood for residents with diverse care needs.

Its residents launched a sewing club as part of a programme of fun and engaging weekly activities, and it quickly became a runaway success, meaning the two sewing machines they possessed were not enough to cater for the demand.

But as soon as they cottoned on to the situation, Redrow stepped in to help!

The company donated the machines as part of a £10,000 community fund shared between 12 good causes close to its Hilton Grange development, which involves hundreds of new properties - namely three and four-bedroom homes at The Finches and three, four and five-bedroom homes at Grace Fields as part of Redrow’s Heritage Collection.

The donation was borne out of a wider focus on social value between Fusion21 and our partners.

We’re proud to work with local authorities and developers to ensure construction projects create meaningful, sustainable, and long-term benefits for communities.

Jody Gavin is Older Person’s Co-ordinator at Plus Dane Housing – one of Fusion21’s valued members.

She said: “Having weekly activities is vital for our customers as, for most of them, it’s the only time they get out and get to meet other people”.

And added: “Combatting loneliness in older age is essential for both mental and physical well-being.”

Anna Evans-Kerr, Sales Director at Redrow NW, said: “By supporting initiatives that bring people together, we can help older adults lead fulfilling, enriched lives.”

Lauren Mannix, Social Value Manager at Fusion21 said: “The way Redrow stepped in to support this inspiring project is a great example of how we work with our valued members and suppliers to ensure communities benefit from developments and enable social value you can see.”

Redrow’s Hilton Grange development forms part of the significant East Halewood Sustainable Extension, a masterplan to build high-quality new homes for the area.
